How to Host an Enormously Fun Thanksgiving in a Small Home
November 22nd 2019

Hosting Thanksgiving dinner for friends and family is a big task. From cooking and cleaning to deciding where everyone is going to sit, the holidays can be difficult when you don’t have as much space as you’d like to. Even if your house is on the smaller and cozier side, being the host is not out of the question! Here are some tips and trips on how you can make things work and make it a meal to remember.
Forget the traditional dining table.
If you don’t have room for everyone to sit down together at the same table, don’t worry about it. Designate spaces for people to enjoy their dinner in smaller groups. You can even do buffet style so people can eat at their leisure and sit or stand wherever they’d like.
Plan out your cooking.
Smaller kitchens can make it more difficult to prepare several courses. You may want to cook some things ahead of time (maybe even the day before) so that your counter space doesn’t get overflowed!
Rearrange the furniture.
If your concern is not enough space for people to mingle, rearrange your furniture! Removing some of your usual pieces or swapping from other rooms is a great way to make more room temporarily.
Utilize every room of the house.
Don’t have a formal dining room? There’s no issue with putting a big table in the middle of the living room. No closet for coats? Use a bedroom to store people’s belongings!
Make it a potluck.
Just because you’re hosting doesn’t mean you have to do everything by yourself. Asking guests to bring parts of the meal can be a major stress relief and give you more time to figure out the rest.
Ask for help.
Remember, the people you spend the holidays with are the people that probably care the most about you. Ask them for some help on the big day!
